Finally, I'm getting a chance to read your remarkable work, Chris. I am always taken back...knocked off my feet...by your thoughts and the clarity and beauty wih which you express them. I appreciate your words, because they have made me rethink some of my tainted opinion of John. I have never had a fondness for him, for a number of reasons, most of which you mentioned. I guess I mean that I've allowed my opinions about the way he chose to live his life have clouded my ability to appreciate him at a deeper level. (Of course, I think he's one of the greats, but I've also thought alot of what he's done is bullshit.) I, too, mist up upon hearing "Imagine"...yet always lurking in the back of my mind is...it's easy for you to imagine there's no possessions...when it requires thousands just to keep you going from hour to hour. That's always tripped me up, and probably always will. And yet, you've communicated a deeper, more profound level of appreciation for the man, by analyzing the darkness that haunted his life (and seeps into the lives of many, in spite of the "priviledged" lives they lead). It is judgmental, on my part, to put a value on his words, when they are the honest moment when all comes together...the dawning of light, hope, in the midst of imperfection and failure.<br/>Thank you for your insights and your ability to renew my spirit and faith in a man I've always had ambivalent feelings about.
